U15s Robbed In Cheadle

Whaley Bridge Under 15s were cruelly robbed by questionable refereeing as they went down 2-1 at Cheadle & Gatley Blues.

For the 4th consecutive week no referee was allocated (league please take note), and the home side had the "privilege" of nominating one of their own coaches to do the job. All went well, with an evenly matched contest, until the home side struck 5 minutes before the break. The second half was end to end stuff, with Bagshaw, Wild and Williams all having long range efforts. There was controversy with 20 minutes left as Cheadle were awarded a penalty, and they duly scored to double their advantage. A sense of injustice spurred our boys on, and Madden battled well before passing to Wild who struck from outside the box. McIlveen then had a chance to equalise but shot tamely at the keeper, and as time was running out it seemed that we would miss out. In the last seconds Whaley won a corner, and even goalkeeper Hodges came up to join in. The ball broke to Bagshaw who shot, and then it deflected to Connell who poked it home. Unfortunately, somewhere in the melee, the referee had decided that it was an appropriate time to blow the full time whistle. 2-1 to Cheadle & Gatley, but our boys definitely deserved at least a draw, whilst the less said about the referee the better!
