Whaley Bridge Under 15s 3 Great Moor County Under 15s 1

It was a welcome return to football after recent events, as Whaley Bridge Under 15s hosted Great Moor County.

With the slope and the wind in the first half Whaley were on the attack early, and they got a deserved breakthrough when Bruce Glover slotted home. Whaley pressed forward scenting more goals, with clever play from Rhys Bowen, Nathan Wild, Ben Bagshaw and unofficial man of the match Kieran Connell. Ole Madden thundered a header against the bar from a corner, and from another set piece a Great Moor defender headed it past his own keeper for 2-0. The second half saw the visitors get a grip on the game, and they replied with a specualtive shot that found the top corner. Suddenly Whaley were on the back foot, but they had chances of their own as Connell, Wild and Bagshaw swarmed forward. As time ticked away it was Connell down the right. His cross seemed to have eluded everyone until Will McIlveen, switched to midfield as a stroke of tactical genius, arrived at the far post to make the game safe. 3-1 at the final whistle, and Whaley eased themselves clear of relegation with a vital 3 points.
