U16s Goalless at Grove

Whaley Bridge Under 16s fought out a goalless draw at champions elect Hazel Grove.

Grove had virtually wrapped up the league, with only Whaley having a remote chance to stop them, so it was all to play for. The game started frantically, and the bobbly pitch led to plenty of mistakes. Jack Howell flicked one over the keeper that sailed wide, whilst at the other end Ash Blackham parried a snapshot and then recovered the ball at the feet of the attack. Ethan Williams had the best chance of the half, but he was beaten by the bounce and his shot sailed over. Ole Madden shot on target, but somehow it hit a divot and spun wide. It was one of those days, and it was 0-0 at the break. The second half started in spectacular fashion as Grove hit the bar, but Whaley stormed back with Alfie Hodges and Howell having chances. A late free kick saw Nathan Wild fire over, and that was that. It finished the way it started, deadlocked. Hazel Grove were confirmed as Champions, but Whaley can still secure second place by winning their final two games.
