The home side more or less dominated from start to finish with a flurry of chances falling to a cross-section of players; good chances were missed and unbelievable goal mouth scrambles cleared.

The visitors broke out towards the Taxal end now and then with some incisive neat stuff and with the scores level a goal against the run of play was always on the cards until Tom Scorer ultimately found himself in the right place at the right time to tap in at the far post to complete yet another goalmouth scramble and relieve the tension to make it 1-0 at half time.

Impressive sweeper Streets didn’t reappear second half after sustaining a muscle strain and Whaley new boy Jamie Kay moved across from left back to partner the dominant Newton and make way for promising young sub Alfie Hodges.

Whaley had started the game in a much higher tempo than against Linotype the other day and maintained it throughout; Adam Barlow having his best game of the season so far with much improved distribution to match his usual endeavour. Barlow together with ‘tenacious’ partner Broome (yet to be carded!) generally bossed their younger opposition and with Sutton dominant just behind Scorer it was a strong central midfield triangle. Gregory starting at right back wasted little, kept possession and built play with some neat football linking well with Burgess down the right flank. Burgess and Gilbride generally worked the flanks well, keeping possession to create a constant supply into the box.

15 minutes before time Broome powered a header home from a corner to put the game beyond doubt.

So a better sustained high tempo performance only tempered by the fact that too many chances still go begging and against stronger opposition, it's Ashton Town next, it could make all the difference.
