Within the first 10 minutes of this game Whaley could and should have taken a two goal lead, a mixture of missed chances and a Dillon Roberts goal ruled out for off side kept the score level which flattered Darley Dale.

The visitors caught Whaley on the counter and were lucky with their first goal, a cross into the box looped over keeper Lloyd totally against the run of play. Their second goal after 30 minutes was well taken but despite continued Whaley attacks, and an Alfie Hodges’ goal being ruled out for alleged off side, the sores remained 0-2 leading into the half time break.

At half time Whaley made 3 changes along with a change of shape and playing 3 in the middle certainly paid off for the home side. A low driven shot by Dan Connell, followed by goals from Jimmy Golpin and Martin Longden put Whaley 3-2 ahead, so each of the substitutes making their mark.

Whaley thought to have scored again when Longden tapped in at close range, there was however another player 'deemed' to be offside so this was yet another disallowed goal.

Darley were awarded a penalty midway through the second half which was well taken to level the scores at 3-3 totally against the run of play.

In the final stages of the game a Whaley corner half cleared to the 18 yard line was hit low and hard by Jimmy Golpin to crash into the back of the net - incredibly the referee blew the final whistle as the ball left his boot and disallowed yet another goal amid much protest. Has there ever been a game when the home side had 4 goals disallowed!

Final score 3-3
