Whaley share the points with Greenalls for the second consecutive week

Whaley Bridge had to re-jig players around again due to injuries etc. However similar to the previous week they did start very well and were comfortable in possession and passing with confidence. It wasn’t long before Leadbetter chased down a through ball to finish well hard and low past the advancing Black. Leadbetter was very unlucky minutes later as he lobbed the keeper from 25 yards only to have been judged off side. Then another testing ball forward by Broome was controlled in the box again by Leadbetter, he beat his marker Hughes to spin and smash the ball into the net for his second. Whaley still haven’t learned the importance of not giving away unnecessary corners and silly free kicks; dead ball kicks had been Greenalls’ main threat for most of the half and when one was delivered high into the Whaley 6 yard box Tattersall came to collect and dropped the ball with Hughes quickest to react making it 1-2. Whaley defenders claimed a push on their keeper but to no avail the referee allowed the goal; all the hard work undone again! In this injury ravaged season Langford suffered a twisted ankle in a hard challenge and so Whaley were forced to change shape again shifting Broome into midfield with Zak Heywood making his debut at centre half.

Second half and Greenalls began to get into the game threatening on the break and not surprisingly they equalised with only 8 minutes gone. Houghton picked up a square ball and was allowed time to cut inside and drill his shot hard and low past Tattersall giving him no chance 2-2. Whaley responded well and were on top for long periods as Leadbetter, O’Donnell & Gilbride all went close, then with 10 minutes to go O’Donnell found Broome on the edge of the box to control and shoot wide of Black putting Whaley in front again. Whaley committed players forward trying to press but were caught out when a long ball in behind Gemmell found the right full back Haves who crossed for Houghton to slot in at the back post to make it 3-3 and with only seconds left a point blank save from Tattersall ensured a point.
