On a very hard pitch and swirling wind the game was a very competitive, albeit ‘end-of-season’ encounter, with few good opportunities on goal. Whaley however had the better earlier chances with Dwyer in particular going close after beating several defenders but shooting just over the bar. The visitors went ahead through Dwyer who following a through ball by Gemmell again drifted by 2 defenders to rifle home for a deserved lead. Then a misunderstanding in the Whaley defence left Eagle’s Sutton in on goal to equalise and minutes later the same nan put the home side ahead through a set play; 2-1
Second half and with chances at a premium it was that man Gilbride who, having again found his scoring boots towards the end of season, rifled Whaley back level with his trusted left foot. It was all looking like a draw was to be a fair result with both teams having worked hard on a poor surface until the deadlock was broken following another Whaley mistake that lead to the Eagle winner, ultimately a through ball allowed Burnem to slot the ball past Tattersall unchallenged..
