Whaley Bridge 6 Buxton Town 2

Whaley made Hope Valley League history by adding the Lawrence Cup to the Derbyshire Divisional Cup, the Hope Valley Premier League title and the Dore Shield. Once again, Buxton Town had no answer to Whaley's prolific goal scorers.
Whaley took the lead when a clever interplay of passes between Dan Christie and Ray Dwolitka ended with the latter sliding the ball past Peter Moss. Buxton fought back immediately and levelled when a Jack Gregory free-kick was headed in by Colin Moss.
Whaley were soon back in front thanks to a Rob Newton looping header and added another when Bill Sutton converted the spot kick after Ray Dwolitka had been pulled down. Buxton pressed again and were rewarded by Mark Balfe's superb right foot shot from outside the box.
Soon after the break, Whaley went 4-2 up with another rocket from Ray Dwolitka. There was further misery for Buxton when a Whaley corner was flicked towards the back post and Rob Newton powered the ball home. That goal killed off the game but there was still time for Micky Ryan to score with a unstoppable drive from the edge of the area.
Rob Newton was superb in Whaley's midfield scoring 2 goals and tackling ferociously and the “man of the match” trophy went to George Langford.
